These are all good practices but most often than not, very few people attain their aspirations because they neglect the most important thingSelf-improvement.

While the accomplishment of success is the ultimate goal in life, who you are becoming in the process is just as important. It’s not only the destination that matters but the journey that shapes your character and personality into the best version of yourself. This should be your primary focus.

Having a fantastic year and being successful in your career, job or relationship is largely determined by the investments you make in your personal growth. The quality of your life is hinged on the efforts you take in improving yourself.

The following tips will help you get started on becoming the best version of yourself in 2018.

1. Change your thinking; embrace healthy imagination

Learn to see beyond your present circumstance and visualise what you hope to become. Your reality is highly dependent on the quality of your imagination. Do away with thoughts of doubts and fear and begin to trust in your skills and abilities.

It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past or what has been said concerning you, make a resolute decision today to begin to think more highly of yourself and learn to appreciate what makes you different.

Learn to visualise what you want. Doing this will help your mind come up with new ideas to accomplish what you’ve pictured for yourself.

2. Avoid comparison

When you keep looking at others to find justification for who you are, you’ll end up disappointed and feel discouraged most of the time.

There are millions of people out there who would definitely appear to be more talented than you, prettier than you, richer than you, stronger than you or even more successful than you.  The key is never to rate yourself in comparison to another’s abilities.

Learn to appreciate people who possess the skills you desire, learn from them if you must.

They may have special talents, but you have something special they don’t have – Your uniqueness, style and personality. Build on these and you’ll eventually discover that you can do stuff in ways that no one else can.

3. Learn to love

There is a burning desire in every human being that’s thirsty for love and affection. While the world is filled with self-centred and greedy people who think of nothing but themselves, you can make a difference by seeking the greater good of others and not just yours only.

By so doing, you’ll reap long-lasting relationships and formidable friendship that will definitely yield results in time to come. Love is the greatest demonstration of maturity.

4. Don’t try to impress people

This doesn’t imply that you shouldn’t work hard or be committed to whatsoever you do. But doing things for the purpose of the appreciation you’d get is a wrong motive and ultimately doesn’t bring long-lasting satisfaction.

Even when you do things for the right motive, don’t be surprised when people do not thank you or appreciate your work. Just keep giving your best and only seek approval from yourself.

5. Take risks; Make mistakes.

“The greatest successes come from having the freedom to fail”- Mark Zuckerberg

There is no successful person who hasn’t failed or made mistakes over and over again. The only difference between successful people and others is their strong resilience to keep going in the midst of disappointments and trials.

One of the most effective ways to learn is by experience. And experience only comes by series of tests, failures and mistakes. Do not try to play life too safe. Get out of your comfort zone and attempt things that would ordinarily scare the wits off you!

To become a better you in 2018, you must be prepared and comfortable with the possibilities of making mistakes and maintaining the right attitude to learn from your failures.

You’ve got just one life, make it count!
